The Food Institute and The Hartman Group hosted an informative webinar
that explained sustainability and revealed how consumers perceive
the issue. There are strong indications that a host of issues related
to sustainability have become mainstream concerns to masses of American
consumers, however, it is important to understand just how the consumer
perceives sustainability. Hartman Group research clearly reveals
that a cultural shift is taking place in terms of consumer awareness,
acceptance and practices that relate to sustainability. Specifically,
perceived risks from air, water, sun and food vectors translates
into both personal behavior as well as larger notions of what are
sustainable and environmental practices, products and services.
This webinar clearly defined sustainability from a consumer perspective
and the key triggers that drive consumers to participate. Additionally,
this presentation revealed the current and emerging perceptions
regarding sustainability, as well as the specific language used
and understood by consumers. Lastly, the webinar discussed the business
practices influencing purchasing behavior, and guidelines for marketing
and communicating sustainability efforts to the consumer.
