The Announcement of the Winners of the
32nd Annual NASFT Product Awards Competition
New York, N.Y. –The aisles at the Summer NASFT Fancy Food Show® are crowded with buyers from all over the world, and everyone is talking about the Winners and Finalists of the 32nd Annual NASFT Product Awards Competition, the specialty food industry’s most prestigious specialty food awards. The 20 Winners were selected at the 50th Summer Fancy Food Show® in New York City on Sunday, June 27, 2004, by more than 100 specialty food retailers, supermarket buyers, catalogers and other resellers. These seasoned palates analyzed, tasted and judged the Finalist products and chose the Winners, which were announced at the Meet the Tastemakers® Reception on Sunday, June 27.
The 20 Winners were chosen from among 98 specialty food Finalist products that were selected this June at the NASFT offices in New York City. The Competition began in May 2004 when NASFT member companies submitted 1,500 entries, totaling more than 3,500 products, in hopes of winning the specialty food industry’s most coveted honor. In the initial round of judging, six specialty food retailers from around the country selected the finalists based on quality, uniqueness, taste, salability, merchandisability, best in its category and retail price. The judging panel was comprised of David Atkins, Giant Eagle Supermarkets, Pittsburgh; Peter Seiler, Gardner’s Markets, Miami; Beth Haskell, Kelsick Gardens, Gloucester, VA; Kate Kauffman, The Truffle, Denver; Sandy Kortright, Crate & Barrel, Chicago; and Chris Masiero, Guido’s Fresh Marketplace, Pittsfield, MA.
Each year, the Winners and Finalists receive national publicity from sources such as Good Morning America, The New York Times and other national and local publications and broadcasts. In addition, the September 2004 issue of Specialty Food Magazine will focus on the Winners and Finalists of this year’s competition. Visit the Focused Exhibits Showcase, located on Level 1 at the Rear of the Exhibit Hall, to see a display of the Winners and Finalists or stop by the NASFT Resource Center on Level 3 in the Crystal Palace to see a display of the Winners.
Established in 1952, the NASFT is the only U.S. trade association representing all segments of the specialty food industry.
