About John Bode

John W. Bode is a principal at Olsson Frank Weeda Terman Bode Matz P.C. Mr. Bode concentrates his practice in legislative and regulatory matters. He served in three Presidential appointments at the U.S. Department of Agriculture before joining the firm in 1989. As Assistant Secretary of Agriculture for Food and Consumer Services, Mr. Bode was responsible for nutrition issues, almost half of the USDA's budget, and scores of rulemakings. During his tenure at USDA, Mr. Bode testified on behalf of the Reagan and Bush Administrations over seventy times and directly oversaw approximately 90 proposed and final rules. Before joining the USDA in 1981, he was on the staff of the U.S. Senate Committee on Agriculture, Nutrition, and Forestry, and served on the staff of then-Governor of Oklahoma David L. Boren. Mr. Bode actively participated in the legislative efforts resulting in the enactment of the Nutrition Labeling and Education Act of 1990, the Food Quality Protection Act of 1996 (pesticide reform), and 1997 FDA Reform legislation. He was born in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, and was educated at the United States Naval Academy and the University of Oklahoma, receiving his B.A. in 1977. He received his J.D. from George Mason University in 1983. He was admitted to the Oklahoma Bar in 1983 and currently is a member of the Oklahoma and American Bar Associations.

About Candice Cho

Candice Cho is a Legislative Assistant for Senator Richard J. Durbin. Her portfolio includes food safety and consumer product safety policy, as well as telecommunications and technology, public housing, poverty, and government affairs issues. Ms. Cho received her BA in Government from Harvard University and a Master of Public Policy from Georgetown University.

About John Ford

John P. Ford, formerly a Senior Democratic Health Counsel of the House Energy and Commerce Committee, is counsel in Sidley Austin's public policy, food and drug and healthcare practices. Ford, the lead healthcare counsel to Chairman John Dingell (D-MI) for food, drug, device and public health matters, has been a principal staff member involved in the development of numerous healthcare laws over the past decade, including the Food and Drug Administration Amendments Act of 2007. While serving at the Energy and Commerce Committee, Ford was responsible for advising the Chairman, Members of Congress and staff on legislative, administrative and other matters pertaining to the Food and Drug Administration, the National Institutes of Health, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the Health Resources and Services Administration and other agencies of the Public Health Service of the Department of Health and Human Services. Prior to his service with the Committee, Ford was the Director of Government Relations for a global food company where he handled a wide range of federal legislative and regulatory matters. He has also practiced law for more than nine years as an associate, counsel and partner.

About Virgil A. Miller

Virgil Anthony Miller currently serves as a Professional Staff Member for the Committee on Energy and Commerce of the United States House of Representatives, working directly with Representative John Dingell. As health policy advisor to Chairman Emeritus Dingell, Virgil's responsibilities include developing strategy for health initiatives, drafting legislation, and monitoring key health proposals before the Committee. His legislative portfolio includes health care reform and Food and Drug Administration (FDA) reform, in addition to other key health policy issues. During the 110th Congress, Virgil's portfolio included food and medical product safety, cosmetics, tobacco, biologics, and health disparities. Virgil was instrumental in securing passage of the Family Smoking Prevention and Tobacco Control Act, historic legislation granting FDA authority to regulate tobacco products; and the Food and Drug Administration Amendments Act of 2007. He has also been instrumental in drafting legislation aimed at protecting the nation's medical product and food supply. Prior to his current position, Virgil served as a Congressional Black Caucus Foundation Louis Stokes Urban Health Policy Fellow in the office of United States Representative Edolphus Towns (D-NY). Virgil received a Bachelor of Science in Biology and a Master of Public Health from Florida A&M University in Tallahassee, Florida. He is a native of West Palm Beach, Florida and currently resides in Arlington,Virginia.
