"Following the strong performance during this year's holiday sales season, many chains further upped their growth plans. Right now, expansion plans are up 40% over last year's levels," stated ChainLinks Research Director Garrick Brown. Freight futures indicated earnings on the transpacific route would edge up 7% from March to May, according to the Baltic Exchange. Average earnings for panamax vessels on one transpacific route, BPHJ, soared as much as 48% from February to May last year, and 186% during the same period in 2009, reported Reuters. Health NewsIndividuals who get plenty of potassium-rich foods in their diet may be less likely to suffer a stroke, according to research published in Journal of the American College of Cardiology. For every 1,640-milligram increase in people's daily potassium intake, the odds of suffering a stroke declined by 21%, reported Reuters. Full Story
Washington NewsA U.S. District Court Judge rejected a request from two Southern Oregon commercial fishermen for a preliminary injunction prohibiting Pacific Seafood from communicating with Ocean Gold, an allied processor, about how much to pay for whiting and which boats to buy from. The judge ruled that the plaintiffs' attorney failed to prove that Pacific Seafood used its market share to suppress prices paid to fishermen, reported OregonLive.com.
