FDA's abilities to discover potential
threats to food safety and prevent outbreaks of foodborne
illness are hampered by impediments
to efficient use of its limited resources and a piecemeal
approach to gathering and using information on risks,
according to a report issued by the Institute of Medicine
and National Research Council. The report recommends
FDA should develop a risk-based approach to regulation,
increase coordination with state and other federal agencies
and amend the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act

Russia is challenging America's supremacy
in the global wheat market, reported Bloomberg
BusinessWeek. Russia currently exports 14% of the
world's wheat, up from 0.5% in 2000. The U.S. share
of wheat exports fell from 26% to 19% over the time
