The J. M. Smucker Company increased the list price for the majority of its coffee products sold in the U.S., primarily consisting of items sold under the Folgers and Dunkin' Donuts brand names. Prices will increase an average of 10% on impacted items as a result of sustained increases in green coffee costs. Full Story

The 103,219 football fans and other Big Game attendees spent an average of $89 per person at the event, the highest amount in the history of the game, according to Legends Hospitality. The total surpassed the prior record of $75 per person spent at last year's Big Game. Full Story

Sysco Corporation measured food cost inflation at 3.9% for the first half of its fiscal year. "Accelerating and significant food cost inflation negatively impacted our customers' purchasing budgets, contributed to increased gross margin pressure and meaningfully increased our selling expense," according to Bill DeLaney, Sysco's president and CEO. Whole Foods is expanding a program that offers Florida farms free use of Whole Foods stores throughout the state as drop-off and pick-up points for weekly CSA deliveries. Mitsubishi Corporation subsidiary Princes Limited entered into a conditional agreement to acquire the canning operations of Premier Foods Plc for £182 million. Under the terms of the proposed agreement, the company will acquire Premier Foods' owned brands such as Fray Bentos and Crosse & Blackwell; two UK based factory sites and all associated fixed assets; and all remaining inventories of raw materials and finished products. NBTY Europe opened a processing and packing plant and headquarters in Warwickshire and Staffordshire. New equipment includes a chocolate coating plant to support new product development and fruit and nut production lines capable of producing more than one million bagged products every week, reported BBC News. Health News

Good nutrition in childhood may promote brain growth and cognitive development, according to British research published in Journal of Epidemiology and Community Health. Children who ate a diet high in processed foods at age three had a lower IQ at 8.5 years than kids with a healthy diet, reported HealthDay. Full Story

Chipotle Mexican Grill was issued "notices of inspection" from U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement for restaurants in Washington, DC and Virginia, reported Reuters. Full Story

California State Sen. Michael Rubio wants to prohibit food stamps from being used for "junk food" and at fast-food restaurants in legislation currently being drafted. Meanwhile, the legislation coincides with the Fresno County plan, which would allow people physically unable to fix their own meals and those without kitchens to redeem their food-stamp benefits at restaurants, reported The Fresno Bee. Sun World International LLC issued stone fruit licenses to Wawona Packing Co. Inc., Enns Packing Co-Wespak Sales and Sunwest Fruit Co. The licenses enable the three companies to produce, pack and distribute designated quantities of stonefruit from Sun World's stone fruit variety line-up, reported The Produce News. Full Story
