The
Department of Justice (DOJ) filed a civil antitrust
lawsuit against Dean Foods Company,
challenging its April 2009 acquisition of Foremost Farms
USA's Consumer Products Division. The DOJ's Antitrust
Division, along with state attorneys general from Illinois,
Michigan and Wisconsin, is seeking to require Dean Foods
to sell the dairy processing plants it acquired from
Foremost Farms. In addition, the lawsuit also
requires Dean Foods to notify the department at least
30 days prior to any future acquisition involving a
milk processing operation. Full

warehouses on Dec. 31, 2009 were greater than year-earlier
levels for cheese, butter
and eggs. Total red meat supplies in freezers were down
1% from the previous month and down 14% from last year.
Total frozen poultry supplies on Dec. 31 were down 1%
from the previous month and down 24% from a year ago.
