About Elaine D. Kolish
Elaine
D. Kolish is Vice President and Director, Children's Food & Beverage Advertising,
Council of Better Business Bureaus. Ms. Kolish is a nationally recognized
expert on advertising and consumer-protection issues. She most recently
was a partner at the national law firm Sonnenschein Nath and Rosenthal
LLP, where she specialized in counseling national advertisers on advertising
and marketing compliance. Prior to joining Sonnenschein, she spent 25
years at the Federal Trade Commission and held several positions, ultimately
serving as head of the Division of Enforcement in the Bureau of Consumer
Protection. She has worked extensively on national advertising matters
and led the Bureau's regulatory review efforts, as well as a number of
other key policy initiatives including the Class Action Fairness Monitoring
Project and the Hispanic consumer-protection program. Ms. Kolish has served
as vice chair of the American Bar Association Antitrust Section's Privacy
and Information Security Committee, and is an editor of a forthcoming
ABA Antitrust Section treatise on consumer protection law. She is a 1976
graduate of the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, and graduated magna
cum laude from Western New England College School of Law in 1980.
About Wayne J. Keeley
Wayne
J. Keeley, is Vice Presiednt & Director, Children's Advertising Review
Unit (CARU), Council of Better Business Bureaus. Mr. Keeley joined CARU
from the National Advertising Division (NAD) of the Council of Better
Business Bureaus, where he served as the Assistant Director for Development.
During his tenure at NAD, Mr. Keeley authored more than 100 decisions.
Before joining NAD in 2000, Mr. Keeley served as general counsel for two
independent video and film-production studios. Mr. Keeley is an award-winning
producer of public service announcements (PSAs) aimed at young people,
addressing such issues as self-esteem, child safety and drug use. He most
recently worked with Olympia Dukakis to produce a PSA on Duschennes muscular
dystrophy for the Parent Project Muscular Dystrophy organization. Mr.
Keeley is a graduate of Fordham College, Bronx, NY; St. John's School
of Law, Jamaica, NY and New York University.
About John P. Feldman
John
practices in the intellectual property, advertising, marketing, promotion
and media law areas in the firm’s Washington office. John also works in
trademark, copyright, and right of publicity counseling and litigation,
and he frequently represents clients before the National Advertising Division,
the nation’s most prominent advertising self-regulatory body. He has worked
with advertising and promotion agencies and advertisers from a vast array
of industries, from pharmaceuticals to quick-serve restaurants to semi-conductors
to hardware products. Another area of John’s practice includes his extensive
work with children’s advertising issues, advising clients on promotional
practices targeted to children, and he has significant experience before
the Children’s Advertising Review Unit. He has been recognized as one
of the few promotions lawyers in the country who regularly clears promotions
internationally using a network of highly qualified international associates.
For several years, John operated a web forum dedicated to sweepstakes
and contests. John is recommended for his excellent reputation among clients,
especially for his regulatory work involving federal bodies in Washington,
D.C. in The Legal 500 directory.
About James Tillotson
James
Tillotson, Ph.D, is a professor of food policy in the Friedman School
of Nutrition Science and Policy and an adjunct professor of international
business at the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy at Tufts University.
Professor Tillotson's research interests include global and domestic food
industries and governmental policies influencing those industries.
